A little rain before the ACL Fest

There was a brief shower while people waited in line for their ACL Fest wristbands today.  But if the weekend weather forecast  holds true this year’s ACL Fest should be one of the best  with highs in the mid- 80s and a slight chance of rain.   The brand new grass at Zilker Park is icing on the cake.

Aspiring pro finally passes golf exam

For years Jonathan Abbott dreamed of being a golf professional.  But first he had to pass the PGA’s Playing Ability Test.  Seven times he tried and failed.  On Monday at the Barton Creek Lakeside course near Spicewood he finally beat that darn test.   Read Kevin Robbins’ feel-good golf story and watch the video.

Austin firefighters remember 9/11

 

As a memorial to the New York City firefighters who died on 9/11, forty-five Austin-area firefighters silently climbed106 flights of stairs – the height of the World Trade Towers - at the Austin Fire Department’s Pleasant Valley Drill Tower on Sept. 11, 2009. Austin firefighters, left to right, Harold Mican, Colin Camp, Tracy Barnes, David Skowron and Thayer Smith rest after climbing 106 flights of stairs at the Pleasant Valley Drill Tower on Friday Sept. 11, 2009.  Forty-five firefighters from Austin and the surrounding area climbed 106 flights of stairs in memory of the FDNY firefighters who climbed that many flights on 9/11.
